Fish Stix and Flippity Frogs games

September 18, 2010 (Berkeley, CA) – In this time of economic hardship, when schools are slashing budgets and teachers are spending their own pay checks on pencils for their classrooms, Peaceable Kingdom has partnered with the Kids In Need Foundation to donate learning products directly to public school classrooms.

“I love the fact the Kids In Need Foundation gets the games directly into the hands of teachers and students,” says Donna Jaffe, Peaceable Kingdom’s President. “We are committed to supporting our schools and know that a small donation can make a big difference.”

Peaceable Kingdom’s donation is anything but small. The company has donated 1,000 games to the Kids In Need Foundation’s 23 resource centers across the country this month, just in time for the start of the school year.

But why games? When classrooms are in need of paper and pencils, how can a game help? “Games like Fish Stix and Flippity Frogs are great classroom activities,” says teacher Stacy Sweet. “They provide a fun way to explore a learning concept. Teachers love games that the children can play on their own and that support the curriculum. These games do just that.”

Both Fish Stix and Flippity Frogs introduce and develop critical math skills in kids pre-K through second grade. The games are colorful, easy-to-learn, fun to play, active, and allow kids of different ages and skill levels to play together. Both games build skills in counting, adding, strategy, and visual reasoning. Fish Stix retails for $14.99 and Flippity Frogs for $9.99 and are available through Amazon.com.

The Kids In Need Foundation’s mission is to ensure that every child is prepared to learn and succeed by providing free school supplies nationally to the students most in need. The foundation often works with established organizations within communities like food banks to advise about the creation of resource centers as a place where teachers can “shop for free” for the things they need. These centers can then apply to become part of the Kids In Need National Network, which is sponsored by Target, and receive donations of product. Supplies come from a variety of sources, from 3M to Staples to Peaceable Kingdom and include such things as books, lined paper, pens, markers, glue sticks, and games.
